About Wireshark
At a glance: Wireshark is a developer tool by The Wireshark developer community, https://www.wireshark.org. The latest version is 4.6.9 for Windows and 4.6.9 for macOS. Price: Free. Licence: GPL-2.0. Official website: wireshark.org.
Wireshark is the world’s most widely used network protocol analyser. It captures the data travelling over a network and lets you inspect it in detail, packet by packet, with decoding for thousands of protocols.
Network engineers, security professionals, developers and students use it to troubleshoot problems, analyse traffic and learn how networks work. Wireshark is free and open source, developed by the Wireshark Foundation and contributors since 1998.
Best for: Troubleshooting networks and learning how protocols work.
Only capture traffic on networks you own or have permission to monitor.

Safety
Where these links come from
Versions and download addresses are read automatically from winget (Windows) and Homebrew (macOS), the public package catalogues used by millions of developers. We only show a link when it points to the developer’s own official domain, and we never host, repackage or bundle the files — your browser downloads them directly from the developer.
Check the file after downloading (optional)
Compare the SHA-256 checksum shown above with the one of the file you downloaded. If they match, the file is exactly the one published by the developer.
- Windows: open PowerShell in your Downloads folder and run
Get-FileHash .\filename - Mac: open Terminal and run
shasum -a 256 ~/Downloads/filename

Wireshark: frequently asked questions
Is this the official Wireshark download?
Yes. The download buttons link directly to the developer’s own servers (2.na.dl.wireshark.org, wireshark.org). DownloadFrom.net does not host, modify or bundle Wireshark; we only list the official files and their SHA-256 checksums so you can verify them.
Which Windows file should I download?
For most PCs, choose the recommended 64-bit installer (.exe). Pick an ARM64 file only for Windows on ARM devices (for example Snapdragon laptops), and MSI packages if you deploy software for an organisation. To check your PC, open Settings → System → About and look at “System type”.
Apple Silicon or Intel — which Mac file do I need?
Open the Apple menu → About This Mac. If it shows “Chip: Apple M…”, download the Apple Silicon version; if it shows “Processor: … Intel”, download the Intel version.
Is Wireshark free?
Yes. Wireshark is free and open source (GPL-2.0).
Why do I need Npcap on Windows?
Npcap is the packet-capture driver Wireshark uses on Windows. The Wireshark installer offers to install it.
Is it legal to use Wireshark?
Yes, on networks you own or are authorised to analyse. Capturing other people’s traffic without permission may be illegal.
