About Proton VPN
At a glance: Proton VPN is a remote access and VPN app by Proton AG. The latest version is 5.1.8 for Windows and 6.5.2 for macOS. Price: Free, with optional paid plans or features. Licence: GPL-3.0. Official website: protonvpn.com.
Proton VPN is a VPN service from Proton AG in Switzerland, the company behind Proton Mail. The app encrypts your internet connection and hides your IP address from the sites you visit and from others on your network, such as public Wi-Fi.
Its free plan has no data limits, no ads and a no-logs policy, but offers servers in only a few countries and one device at a time. Paid plans add more countries, faster servers, streaming support and more devices. The apps are open source.
Best for: People who want a trustworthy free VPN for public Wi-Fi and privacy.

Safety
Where these links come from
Versions and download addresses are read automatically from winget (Windows) and Homebrew (macOS), the public package catalogues used by millions of developers. We only show a link when it points to the developer’s own official domain, and we never host, repackage or bundle the files — your browser downloads them directly from the developer.
Check the file after downloading (optional)
Compare the SHA-256 checksum shown above with the one of the file you downloaded. If they match, the file is exactly the one published by the developer.
- Windows: open PowerShell in your Downloads folder and run
Get-FileHash .\filename - Mac: open Terminal and run
shasum -a 256 ~/Downloads/filename
Help
Proton VPN: frequently asked questions
Is this the official Proton VPN download?
Yes. The download buttons link directly to the developer’s own servers (vpn.protondownload.com). DownloadFrom.net does not host, modify or bundle Proton VPN; we only list the official files and their SHA-256 checksums so you can verify them.
Which Windows file should I download?
For most PCs, choose the recommended 64-bit installer (.exe). Pick an ARM64 file only for Windows on ARM devices (for example Snapdragon laptops), and MSI packages if you deploy software for an organisation. To check your PC, open Settings → System → About and look at “System type”.
Is Proton VPN really free?
Yes. The free plan has no data limit and no ads, but it is limited to one device and a few server countries. Paid plans unlock more.
Do I need an account?
Yes. You need a free Proton account to sign in to the app.
Is using a VPN legal?
In most countries, yes. A few countries restrict VPNs, so check your local laws.
