About Tor Browser
Tor Browser is a privacy browser from the Tor Project, a US non-profit. It is based on Firefox ESR and sends your traffic through the volunteer-run Tor network, bouncing it through three relays so that websites cannot see your real IP address and your internet provider cannot see which sites you visit.
It also makes every user look alike to reduce fingerprinting, deletes cookies and history when you close it, and can open .onion sites. The trade-off is speed: pages load more slowly than in a normal browser, and some sites show extra CAPTCHAs to Tor users.
Best for: Journalists, activists and anyone who needs strong anonymity or to get around censorship.
Tor Browser hides your location from websites, but it cannot protect you if you sign in to personal accounts or download and open files from untrusted sources.

Safety
Where these links come from
Versions and download addresses are read automatically from winget (Windows) and Homebrew (macOS), the public package catalogues used by millions of developers. We only show a link when it points to the developer’s own official domain, and we never host, repackage or bundle the files — your browser downloads them directly from the developer.
Check the file after downloading (optional)
Compare the SHA-256 checksum shown above with the one of the file you downloaded. If they match, the file is exactly the one published by the developer.
- Windows: open PowerShell in your Downloads folder and run
Get-FileHash .\filename - Mac: open Terminal and run
shasum -a 256 ~/Downloads/filename
Help
Tor Browser: frequently asked questions
Is this the official Tor Browser download?
Yes. The download buttons link directly to the developer’s own servers (archive.torproject.org, torproject.org). DownloadFrom.net does not host, modify or bundle Tor Browser; we only list the official files and their SHA-256 checksums so you can verify them.
Which Windows file should I download?
For most PCs, choose the recommended 64-bit installer, current user only (.exe). Pick an ARM64 file only for Windows on ARM devices (for example Snapdragon laptops), and MSI packages if you deploy software for an organisation. To check your PC, open Settings → System → About and look at “System type”.
Is Tor Browser legal?
In most countries using Tor is legal, and it is used by journalists, researchers and ordinary people for privacy. A few countries restrict it — check your local laws.
Why is Tor Browser slow?
Your traffic travels through three relays around the world before reaching the website, which adds delay. This is the price of hiding your IP address.
Is Tor Browser free?
Yes. It is free and open source, developed by the non-profit Tor Project and funded by donations and grants.
