About Firefox
Firefox is the open-source web browser made by Mozilla, a company owned by the non-profit Mozilla Foundation. It is one of the few major browsers that does not use Google’s Chromium engine — it runs on Mozilla’s own Gecko engine, which keeps the web from depending on a single company’s technology.
Firefox is a good everyday browser if privacy matters to you: tracking protection is switched on by default, and your bookmarks, passwords and open tabs can sync between computer and phone with a free Mozilla account.
Best for: People who want a fast, private, independent browser that is not built on Chromium.
System requirements
- Windows: 64-bit (x64), 32-bit (x86), ARM64
- macOS: Apple Silicon & Intel
Features
What you can do with Firefox
-
Enhanced Tracking Protection
Blocks many cross-site trackers, social-media trackers and cryptominers automatically, without installing anything.
-
Own browser engine
Built on Gecko rather than Chromium, so it is a genuine alternative to Chrome-based browsers.
-
Firefox Sync
Keeps bookmarks, history, passwords and open tabs in step across Windows, Mac, Linux, Android and iOS.
-
Add-ons
Thousands of extensions — ad blockers, password managers, dark-mode and productivity tools — from addons.mozilla.org.
-
Picture-in-picture
Pop a video out of the page into a floating window and keep watching while you work.
Safety
Where these links come from
Versions and download addresses are read automatically from winget (Windows) and Homebrew (macOS), the public package catalogues used by millions of developers. We only show a link when it points to the developer’s own official domain, and we never host, repackage or bundle the files — your browser downloads them directly from the developer.
Check the file after downloading (optional)
Compare the SHA-256 checksum shown above with the one of the file you downloaded. If they match, the file is exactly the one published by the developer.
- Windows: open PowerShell in your Downloads folder and run
Get-FileHash .\filename - Mac: open Terminal and run
shasum -a 256 ~/Downloads/filename
Help
Firefox: frequently asked questions
Is this the official Firefox download?
Yes. The download buttons link directly to the developer’s own servers (download-installer.cdn.mozilla.net). DownloadFrom.net does not host, modify or bundle Firefox; we only list the official files and their SHA-256 checksums so you can verify them.
Which Windows file should I download?
For most PCs, choose the recommended 64-bit installer (.exe). Pick an ARM64 file only for Windows on ARM devices (for example Snapdragon laptops), and MSI packages if you deploy software for an organisation. To check your PC, open Settings → System → About and look at “System type”.
Is Firefox free?
Yes. Firefox is free and open source (Mozilla Public License 2.0). There is no paid version of the browser itself.
Can I import my bookmarks and passwords from Chrome or Edge?
Yes. On first start — or later under Bookmarks → Manage bookmarks → Import and Backup — Firefox can import bookmarks, history and saved passwords from other browsers on the same computer.
Does Firefox work with Chrome extensions?
Not directly. Firefox uses its own add-on store, but most popular extensions (uBlock Origin, Bitwarden, Dark Reader and many more) have Firefox versions.
