About Brave Browser
Brave is a free, open-source browser built on Chromium that blocks ads and trackers by default. Because it shares Chrome’s engine, websites behave the same and almost all Chrome Web Store extensions work — but out of the box it loads pages with far less tracking.
Brave’s built-in protection, called Shields, can be adjusted per site. The browser also offers optional extras such as Brave Search, private windows that route through the Tor network, and an opt-in rewards programme; none of these are required to use it as a normal browser.
Best for: People who want Chrome-like compatibility with ad and tracker blocking built in.
System requirements
- Windows: 64-bit (x64), 32-bit (x86), ARM64
- macOS: macOS 13 Ventura or later · Apple Silicon, Intel

-
Private window with Tor
An optional private-window mode connects through the Tor network to hide your IP address from sites.
-
Sync without an account
Brave Sync links devices with a sync code instead of an email login.
-
Optional extras
Brave Search, Brave Rewards and a paid VPN are available but can be turned off or ignored.
Safety
Where these links come from
Versions and download addresses are read automatically from winget (Windows) and Homebrew (macOS), the public package catalogues used by millions of developers. We only show a link when it points to the developer’s own official domain, and we never host, repackage or bundle the files — your browser downloads them directly from the developer.
Check the file after downloading (optional)
Compare the SHA-256 checksum shown above with the one of the file you downloaded. If they match, the file is exactly the one published by the developer.
- Windows: open PowerShell in your Downloads folder and run
Get-FileHash .\filename - Mac: open Terminal and run
shasum -a 256 ~/Downloads/filename
Help
Brave Browser: frequently asked questions
Is this the official Brave Browser download?
Yes. The download buttons link directly to the developer’s own servers (github.com/brave, updates-cdn.bravesoftware.com). DownloadFrom.net does not host, modify or bundle Brave Browser; we only list the official files and their SHA-256 checksums so you can verify them.
Which Windows file should I download?
For most PCs, choose the recommended 64-bit installer (.exe). Pick an ARM64 file only for Windows on ARM devices (for example Snapdragon laptops), and MSI packages if you deploy software for an organisation. To check your PC, open Settings → System → About and look at “System type”.
Apple Silicon or Intel — which Mac file do I need?
Open the Apple menu → About This Mac. If it shows “Chip: Apple M…”, download the Apple Silicon version; if it shows “Processor: … Intel”, download the Intel version.
Is Brave free?
Yes. The browser is free and open source (Mozilla Public License 2.0). Only optional services such as Brave VPN are paid.
Does Brave block YouTube ads?
Brave Shields blocks many ads on websites, including video sites, but sites change their ad systems often, so results vary over time.
Is Brave based on Chrome?
Brave is built on Chromium, the open-source project behind Chrome, but it is developed by Brave Software and removes Google services and tracking by default.
