About VirtualBox
VirtualBox is a free, open-source virtualisation program from Oracle. It lets you run other operating systems — Linux, Windows and more — as virtual machines inside a window on your computer, without changing your main system.
It is popular for testing software, learning Linux and running older systems. VirtualBox itself is GPL-licensed; the optional Extension Pack (for some USB and remote-display features) has a separate licence that is free only for personal and educational use.
Best for: Testing operating systems and software safely in a virtual machine.
On Macs, recent versions support Apple Silicon for ARM guest systems; Intel-only operating systems cannot run on Apple Silicon.
System requirements
- Windows: 64-bit (x64)
- macOS: Apple Silicon, Intel

Safety
Where these links come from
Versions and download addresses are read automatically from winget (Windows) and Homebrew (macOS), the public package catalogues used by millions of developers. We only show a link when it points to the developer’s own official domain, and we never host, repackage or bundle the files — your browser downloads them directly from the developer.
Check the file after downloading (optional)
Compare the SHA-256 checksum shown above with the one of the file you downloaded. If they match, the file is exactly the one published by the developer.
- Windows: open PowerShell in your Downloads folder and run
Get-FileHash .\filename - Mac: open Terminal and run
shasum -a 256 ~/Downloads/filename
Help
VirtualBox: frequently asked questions
Is this the official VirtualBox download?
Yes. The download buttons link directly to the developer’s own servers (download.virtualbox.org). DownloadFrom.net does not host, modify or bundle VirtualBox; we only list the official files and their SHA-256 checksums so you can verify them.
Which Windows file should I download?
There is one Windows download: the 64-bit installer (.exe).
Apple Silicon or Intel — which Mac file do I need?
Open the Apple menu → About This Mac. If it shows “Chip: Apple M…”, download the Apple Silicon version; if it shows “Processor: … Intel”, download the Intel version.
Is VirtualBox free?
Yes. VirtualBox is free and open source (GPL-3.0). The optional Extension Pack is free only for personal and educational use.
Why is my virtual machine slow?
Enable hardware virtualisation (Intel VT-x / AMD-V) in your BIOS/UEFI and give the VM enough memory and CPU cores.
Can VirtualBox run Windows 11?
Yes, on supported hosts. You will need a Windows licence for the guest system.
