About Rufus
At a glance: Rufus is a utility by pbatard. The latest version is 4.15 for Windows. Price: Free. Licence: GPL-3.0-or-later. Official website: rufus.ie.
Rufus is a small, free and open-source utility by Pete Batard for creating bootable USB drives from ISO images. It is the go-to tool for making Windows or Linux installation sticks, and it needs no installation.
Rufus can create BIOS or UEFI bootable drives, download official Windows ISOs, and optionally adjust Windows 11 setup — for example removing the TPM and Secure Boot requirement or pre-setting a local account. It can also check drives for bad blocks and detect fake flash drives.
Best for: Creating a Windows or Linux installation USB quickly and reliably.
Creating a bootable drive erases everything on the USB stick — copy any files you need first.
System requirements
- Windows: 64-bit (x64), 32-bit (x86), ARM64

Safety
Where these links come from
Versions and download addresses are read automatically from winget (Windows) and Homebrew (macOS), the public package catalogues used by millions of developers. We only show a link when it points to the developer’s own official domain, and we never host, repackage or bundle the files — your browser downloads them directly from the developer.
Check the file after downloading (optional)
Compare the SHA-256 checksum shown above with the one of the file you downloaded. If they match, the file is exactly the one published by the developer.
- Windows: open PowerShell in your Downloads folder and run
Get-FileHash .\filename - Mac: open Terminal and run
shasum -a 256 ~/Downloads/filename
Help
Rufus: frequently asked questions
Is this the official Rufus download?
Yes. The download buttons link directly to the developer’s own servers (github.com/pbatard). DownloadFrom.net does not host, modify or bundle Rufus; we only list the official files and their SHA-256 checksums so you can verify them.
Which Windows file should I download?
For most PCs, choose the recommended 64-bit portable, no install (.exe). Pick an ARM64 file only for Windows on ARM devices (for example Snapdragon laptops), and MSI packages if you deploy software for an organisation. To check your PC, open Settings → System → About and look at “System type”.
Is Rufus free and safe?
Yes. Rufus is free and open source (GPL-3.0). Download it only from the official sources — the links here point to the official GitHub releases.
Do I need to install Rufus?
No. Rufus runs directly from the downloaded .exe file.
Rufus or Ventoy?
Rufus writes one image to a USB drive with lots of options. Ventoy lets you copy several ISO files onto one drive and choose at boot time.
