About 7-Zip
At a glance: 7-Zip is a utility by Igor Pavlov. The latest version is 26.05 for Windows. Price: Free. Licence: LGPL-2.1. Official website: 7-zip.org.
7-Zip is a free, open-source file archiver created by Igor Pavlov. Its own 7z format, based on LZMA/LZMA2 compression, usually produces smaller archives than ZIP, and it can open almost every archive type you are likely to meet — ZIP, RAR, TAR, GZ, ISO, CAB and many more.
7-Zip adds a right-click menu to File Explorer, so you can extract or compress files without opening the program. Archives can be protected with strong AES-256 encryption.
Best for: Anyone who needs to open or create ZIP, RAR, 7z and other archives on Windows.

Safety
Where these links come from
Versions and download addresses are read automatically from winget (Windows) and Homebrew (macOS), the public package catalogues used by millions of developers. We only show a link when it points to the developer’s own official domain, and we never host, repackage or bundle the files — your browser downloads them directly from the developer.
Check the file after downloading (optional)
Compare the SHA-256 checksum shown above with the one of the file you downloaded. If they match, the file is exactly the one published by the developer.
- Windows: open PowerShell in your Downloads folder and run
Get-FileHash .\filename - Mac: open Terminal and run
shasum -a 256 ~/Downloads/filename
Help
7-Zip: frequently asked questions
Is this the official 7-Zip download?
Yes. The download buttons link directly to the developer’s own servers (github.com/ip7z). DownloadFrom.net does not host, modify or bundle 7-Zip; we only list the official files and their SHA-256 checksums so you can verify them.
Which Windows file should I download?
For most PCs, choose the recommended 64-bit installer (.exe). Pick an ARM64 file only for Windows on ARM devices (for example Snapdragon laptops), and MSI packages if you deploy software for an organisation. To check your PC, open Settings → System → About and look at “System type”.
Is 7-Zip free?
Yes. 7-Zip is free and open source (mostly LGPL), for home and business use, with no nag screens.
Can 7-Zip open RAR files?
Yes, 7-Zip can extract RAR and RAR5 archives. Creating RAR archives is not possible because the format is proprietary.
Is there 7-Zip for Mac?
There is no official graphical 7-Zip for macOS. Mac users can use built-in Archive Utility or other archivers; PeaZip is a free cross-platform option.
