About Windows Terminal
Windows Terminal is Microsoft’s modern, open-source terminal app. It brings Command Prompt, PowerShell, WSL Linux shells and SSH sessions together in one window with tabs and split panes.
It renders text with the GPU, supports Unicode and emoji, and can be customised with themes, colour schemes, fonts, background images and keyboard shortcuts. On Windows 11 it is already the default terminal; on Windows 10 you can install it from this page.
Best for: Anyone who uses PowerShell, Command Prompt or WSL regularly.

Safety
Where these links come from
Versions and download addresses are read automatically from winget (Windows) and Homebrew (macOS), the public package catalogues used by millions of developers. We only show a link when it points to the developer’s own official domain, and we never host, repackage or bundle the files — your browser downloads them directly from the developer.
Check the file after downloading (optional)
Compare the SHA-256 checksum shown above with the one of the file you downloaded. If they match, the file is exactly the one published by the developer.
- Windows: open PowerShell in your Downloads folder and run
Get-FileHash .\filename - Mac: open Terminal and run
shasum -a 256 ~/Downloads/filename
Help
Windows Terminal: frequently asked questions
Is this the official Windows Terminal download?
Yes. The download buttons link directly to the developer’s own servers (github.com/microsoft). DownloadFrom.net does not host, modify or bundle Windows Terminal; we only list the official files and their SHA-256 checksums so you can verify them.
Which Windows file should I download?
There is one Windows download: the Universal MSIX package, current user only (.msixbundle).
Is Windows Terminal free?
Yes. It is free and open source under the MIT licence.
Why is the download an .msixbundle file?
Windows Terminal is packaged as an MSIX bundle that contains all architectures. Double-click it to install with App Installer; it may also require the Microsoft UI XAML framework, which the Microsoft Store version installs automatically.
Does it work on Windows 10?
Yes, on recent versions of Windows 10 and on Windows 11. See the minimum Windows version under system requirements on this page.
