About MPC-HC
At a glance: MPC-HC is a media app by MPC-HC Team. The latest version is 2.8.4 for Windows. Price: Free. Licence: GPL-3.0. Official website: github.com/clsid2.
MPC-HC (Media Player Classic – Home Cinema) is a very lightweight, open-source video and audio player for Windows. The version linked here is the actively maintained continuation by developer clsid2, which keeps the classic player up to date with modern formats.
It starts instantly, uses little memory and includes the LAV Filters decoders, so common formats play without a separate codec pack. Its interface looks like the old Windows Media Player 6.4, but under the hood it is fast and highly configurable.
Best for: Windows users who want a fast, no-frills player that respects older hardware.
System requirements
- Windows: 64-bit (x64), 32-bit (x86)

Safety
Where these links come from
Versions and download addresses are read automatically from winget (Windows) and Homebrew (macOS), the public package catalogues used by millions of developers. We only show a link when it points to the developer’s own official domain, and we never host, repackage or bundle the files — your browser downloads them directly from the developer.
Check the file after downloading (optional)
Compare the SHA-256 checksum shown above with the one of the file you downloaded. If they match, the file is exactly the one published by the developer.
- Windows: open PowerShell in your Downloads folder and run
Get-FileHash .\filename - Mac: open Terminal and run
shasum -a 256 ~/Downloads/filename
Help
MPC-HC: frequently asked questions
Is this the official MPC-HC download?
Yes. The download buttons link directly to the developer’s own servers (github.com/clsid2). DownloadFrom.net does not host, modify or bundle MPC-HC; we only list the official files and their SHA-256 checksums so you can verify them.
Which Windows file should I download?
For most PCs, choose the recommended 64-bit installer (.exe). Pick an ARM64 file only for Windows on ARM devices (for example Snapdragon laptops), and MSI packages if you deploy software for an organisation. To check your PC, open Settings → System → About and look at “System type”.
Is MPC-HC still being developed?
Yes. The original project stopped in 2017, but the fork maintained by clsid2 continues to receive regular updates — that is the version offered here.
Is MPC-HC free?
Yes. MPC-HC is free and open source (GPL-3.0), without ads.
Is there a Mac version?
No. MPC-HC is Windows-only. On a Mac, VLC is a good free alternative.
