About KeePassXC

At a glance: KeePassXC is a productivity and communication app by KeePassXC Team. The latest version is 2.8.0 for Windows and 2.8.0 for macOS. Price: Free. Licence: GPL-2.0-or-later. Official website: keepassxc.org.

KeePassXC is a free, open-source password manager for Windows, macOS and Linux, developed by the community. It stores your passwords, usernames, notes and attachments in an encrypted database file that stays on your device — no cloud account needed.

You can keep the file in any synced folder to use it on several computers, and the browser extension fills in logins automatically. KeePassXC uses the standard KDBX format, so the same database also works with other KeePass-compatible apps on phones.

Best for: People who want a free password manager that keeps everything offline.

Safety

Where these links come from

Versions and download addresses are read automatically from winget (Windows) and Homebrew (macOS), the public package catalogues used by millions of developers. We only show a link when it points to the developer’s own official domain, and we never host, repackage or bundle the files — your browser downloads them directly from the developer.

Check the file after downloading (optional)

Compare the SHA-256 checksum shown above with the one of the file you downloaded. If they match, the file is exactly the one published by the developer.

  • Windows: open PowerShell in your Downloads folder and run Get-FileHash .\filename
  • Mac: open Terminal and run shasum -a 256 ~/Downloads/filename

Help

KeePassXC: frequently asked questions

Is this the official KeePassXC download?

Yes. The download buttons link directly to the developer’s own servers (github.com/keepassxreboot). DownloadFrom.net does not host, modify or bundle KeePassXC; we only list the official files and their SHA-256 checksums so you can verify them.

Which Windows file should I download?

For most PCs, choose the recommended 64-bit MSI installer (.msi). Pick an ARM64 file only for Windows on ARM devices (for example Snapdragon laptops), and MSI packages if you deploy software for an organisation. To check your PC, open Settings → System → About and look at “System type”.

Apple Silicon or Intel — which Mac file do I need?

Open the Apple menu → About This Mac. If it shows “Chip: Apple M…”, download the Apple Silicon version; if it shows “Processor: … Intel”, download the Intel version.

Is KeePassXC free?

Yes. KeePassXC is free and open source (GPL), with no premium tier.

KeePass or KeePassXC?

KeePass is the original Windows app; KeePassXC is a separate, modern cross-platform app that uses the same database format.

Can I use my KeePassXC passwords on my phone?

Yes. Sync the database file to your phone and open it with a KeePass-compatible app such as KeePassDX (Android) or Strongbox/KeePassium (iOS).
