About Signal
Signal is a free, open-source messaging app focused on privacy, developed by the non-profit Signal Foundation. Messages, voice and video calls are end-to-end encrypted with the Signal Protocol, which is also used by other major messengers.
Signal Desktop links to the Signal app on your phone, so you need a Signal account on a phone first. Signal collects minimal data and is funded by donations, not ads.
Best for: Private messaging with strong, default encryption.
System requirements

Safety
Where these links come from
Versions and download addresses are read automatically from winget (Windows) and Homebrew (macOS), the public package catalogues used by millions of developers. We only show a link when it points to the developer’s own official domain, and we never host, repackage or bundle the files — your browser downloads them directly from the developer.
Check the file after downloading (optional)
Compare the SHA-256 checksum shown above with the one of the file you downloaded. If they match, the file is exactly the one published by the developer.
- Windows: open PowerShell in your Downloads folder and run
Get-FileHash .\filename - Mac: open Terminal and run
shasum -a 256 ~/Downloads/filename
