About Inkscape

At a glance: Inkscape is a graphics and design app by Inkscape. The latest version is 1.4.4 for Windows and 1.4.4 for macOS. Price: Free. Licence: GPL-2.0. Official website: inkscape.org.

Inkscape is a free and open-source vector graphics editor for Windows, macOS and Linux. Instead of pixels it works with shapes and paths, so logos, icons, illustrations and diagrams stay sharp at any size.

Its native format is SVG, the open web standard, and it can also import and export PDF, EPS, AI (PDF-compatible), PNG and more. The project is part of the Software Freedom Conservancy, a US non-profit.

Best for: Designing logos, icons, posters, cutting-machine files and diagrams for free.

Safety

Where these links come from

Versions and download addresses are read automatically from winget (Windows) and Homebrew (macOS), the public package catalogues used by millions of developers. We only show a link when it points to the developer’s own official domain, and we never host, repackage or bundle the files — your browser downloads them directly from the developer.

Check the file after downloading (optional)

Compare the SHA-256 checksum shown above with the one of the file you downloaded. If they match, the file is exactly the one published by the developer.

  • Windows: open PowerShell in your Downloads folder and run Get-FileHash .\filename
  • Mac: open Terminal and run shasum -a 256 ~/Downloads/filename

Help

Inkscape: frequently asked questions

Is this the official Inkscape download?

Yes. The download buttons link directly to the developer’s own servers (media.inkscape.org). DownloadFrom.net does not host, modify or bundle Inkscape; we only list the official files and their SHA-256 checksums so you can verify them.

Which Windows file should I download?

For most PCs, choose the recommended 64-bit installer (.exe). Pick an ARM64 file only for Windows on ARM devices (for example Snapdragon laptops), and MSI packages if you deploy software for an organisation. To check your PC, open Settings → System → About and look at “System type”.

Apple Silicon or Intel — which Mac file do I need?

Open the Apple menu → About This Mac. If it shows “Chip: Apple M…”, download the Apple Silicon version; if it shows “Processor: … Intel”, download the Intel version.

Is Inkscape free?

Yes. Inkscape is free and open source under the GPL, for personal and commercial work.

Can Inkscape open Adobe Illustrator files?

Inkscape can import .ai files that were saved with PDF compatibility, which is the default in Illustrator. Very old or non-PDF-compatible files may not open.

Inkscape or GIMP?

Use Inkscape for vector artwork such as logos and illustrations that must scale; use GIMP for photos and pixel-based editing.
